Food Photography for Singapore heart foundation
Firstly, i would like to say this my x time i did product photography and x is a very very small number. Food photography wise its a FIRST and boy is it hard work. I caught myself wishing i had a person to talk to during the whole shoot, thank god i didn’t try to talk to the food. Food don’t exactly make very interactive subjects.
Anyways, i did a food photo shoot for Singapore heart foundation as part of my CIP plan, I decided i wanna contribute back to society with something close to my heart and what better way then provide them with pictures they need!

I must say, in the little time i was there, i learnt things i didn’t know about awareness of heart diseases and the education they are pushing for. One thing i remembered from the entire experience is this, people generally don’t believe that corrective actions can be taken to prevent a heart attack, even if it has already happened to you. These dedicated people go around convincing the public that heart diseases can be controlled with proper diet and exercise. I guess many people just resign to fate and blame everything on their genes.

I wished i had more control over the plates and table, but sometimes you just gotta make do.

Healthy Stuff!

This thought just came into my head, if you cannot tell the food i’m photographing just by glancing at the picture, i think i’ve failed miserably. Just a thought.

Seok Ping, who is the marketing person at Heart foundation said i made this look too good. Hahaha..

I had this bunch of beans and thus i made a shape of a heart because its Heart Foundation! I feel like a girl. The ladies found this cute, while i was busy trying to get the beans in shape.

By this time my inspiration was running very dry. One last desperate push for a nice look. I think its me, i need this interactivity with my subject to provoke thought. I admire still life photographers, i think i’ve a lot to learn from them.

Unsalted roasted nuts are good for you!

The ladies were like shocked the image came out looking slightly appetizing, its actually the lunch of one of the staff at heart centre. Thats one healthy meal i tell you.

Pop corn.
I’ll be going back there again, hopefully my pictures will benefit them and they’ll get me more assignments! Thanks seok ping and gang! I believe the work you guys are doing at the heart foundation!
Kexin personality shoot
Stress!! I had all the plans in my head but it was so hard to recall the exact look for the photos. In the end Chloe’s words echoed in my head ” Just go with the flow” and we did, here are the results. I absolutely enjoyed the shoot, i would like to thank to Kexin for her spontaneity and Chole for her inspirations and creative direction, i couldn’t have done it without you girls! Enjoy!

First few shots, so her smile was still fresh. Kexin was a natural smiler so posing her was simple, that gave me a lot of room to work her posture and the desired look in the final photo.

This would have been really nice if i had the opportunity to do it in a home with real comfortable sofas and nice bright coloured wall paint. Given the circumstances, this is pretty good.

One of my favorite pictures. I love the lines it creates and the relaxed expression on her. This look is totally Chloe’s idea, again i am in awe of the fantastic ideas that chloe can come up with

Her expression says it all.

Another of my favorite shot, I think Kexin can agree with me that this is a side that people don’t often see. Love her dress. Initially when she raised her arms, she was blocking the light coming from the right of the picture so i got her to tilt her body at a slight angle and the next shot was well exposed

A good mix of crazy and smiley!

No points for guessing what she loves doing!
Friends Studio Day
First thing about doing shoots for friends? Train them to be lighting minions. Just kidding.
It was a tiring day and well worth it. Learnt a lot about lighting like the very important kicker lights that were absent. Kicker lights are basically lights to separate the object from the background. So for example

This picture would have looked more meaningful if the kickers were in placed. Good thing about this? I think the look is really contemplative, good expression. I love the nice shadows coming in from the left side of the picture. Still a good photo in my book.

I love this picture solely for the expression. Ben the guy on the right can sometime be difficult to photograph but this shot made him look very pleasant

Lucky shot. This picture i feel captures the fun loving spirit of ben. Maybe i should have given him less shadows. Looks like a magazine shot with the spaces at the left and top!

My favorite shot of the day, i think this photo made him look like a model, his expression was right, pose was good and the light came down from the top left of the picture which accentuated the jacket he is holding as well as to give the face alittle texture. I just like the feel of this picture very much

Not well lit but i feel the 3 of them came quite well together, pictorially they existed quite nicely. Especially after several time of telling them to all give the same smiling expression!

One of the few pictures i took that actually looked good head on. The subject is right smack in the middle and maybe its the combination of red that made this picture stand out. I like the fact that he entire face is not shown. Nice!

Could have been a nicer shot, should have gotten one of my lighting minions to put a reflector near her face to light it up. I would have done the same pose but better lights.
